The Avengers (2012)

The Avengers (2012) is an American superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name. The film, which is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. While planning to conquer Earth, Loki, a member of the Asgardian race, makes a deal with the leader of an extraterrestrial group called the Chitauri. In exchange for giving him access to the Tesseract – a powerful source of energy with unknown potential – The Other promises to provide Loki with an army. Upon discovering that the Tesseract has been activated, Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., rushes to a remote research facility where physicist Dr. Erik Selvig is studying it. To everyone’s surprise, Loki uses his scepter to enslave those present including Clint Barton and Dr. Selvig himself. In response, Fury reactivates what is known as the ‘Avengers Initiative’. Agent Natasha Romanoff travels to Kolkata to recruit Dr. Bruce Banner who can use his skills to trace the Tesseract through its gamma radiation emissions.

Fury seeks out Steve Rogers for his knowledge of the Tesseract, while Agent Phil Coulson visits Tony Stark to review Selvig’s research. Meanwhile, Loki is in Stuttgart where Barton steals iridium, a crucial component to stabilize the Tesseract. This leads to a confrontation with Rogers, Stark, and Romanoff, ultimately resulting in Loki’s surrender. As Loki is being escorted to S.H.I.E.L.D., his adoptive brother Thor arrives and frees him in hopes of persuading him to abandon his destructive plan and return home to Asgard. However, before anything can be resolved, Stark and Rogers intervene and ultimately succeed in imprisoning Loki aboard S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Helicarrier. As the Avengers gather on the carrier, they quickly become divided on how to handle Loki’s presence. Their disagreement escalates and tensions rise when they discover that S.H.I.E.L.D plans to use the Tesseract as a weapon against hostile extraterrestrial beings.
