The Marvels (2023) is an American superhero film inspired by Marvel Comics. It serves as the sequel to Captain Marvel (2019), a continuation of the miniseries Ms. Marvel (2022), and the 33rd installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story follows Carol Danvers as she destroys the Supreme Intelligence, the artificial leader of the Kree empire. This sparks a civil war on their home planet Hala, resulting in its gradual depletion over three decades without air, water, or sunlight. As new Kree leader Dar-Benn discovers one of the legendary Quantum Bands that were previously used for intergalactic travel, she uses it to forcefully open a new jump point connected to the network. However, this causes an anomaly that affects multiple points on the network, including one near Earth’s S.A.B.E.R space station under Nick Fury’s management.
While Captain Monica Rambeau investigates this anomaly near S.A.B.E.R., Danvers takes on tracking down Dar-Benn’s newly opened jump point herself. As they reach their designated jump points, Rambeau is instantly transported to Danvers’s location, while Kamala Khan, who possesses the remaining Quantum Band on Earth, emerges at Rambeau’s original spot. Meanwhile, Danvers is whisked away to Kamala’s home. Utilizing their unique light-based abilities, the trio bravely battles and defeats the Kree enemies, unfortunately resulting in significant damage to the Khan family residence. Once they return to their initial locations, Fury and Rambeau venture out to visit Kamala on Earth. Upon reflection, Rambeau theorizes that their light powers are interconnected through quantum entanglement and trigger a switch between places whenever any of them utilize said powers simultaneously.
